Sorular

Bu olay aklimna su yuzden geldi Paul Graham'in bir roportajinda soyledigi "Bana Zuckerberg'i andiran herhangi birine yatirim yababilirim"

      • Solcularin egemenlere genelde gucleri yetmedigi icin ufak problemler uzerinde birbirleriyle dalasmasi epey yaygin

Sex and sexuality, mental health status, or physical attractiveness are common traits or actions used in a pollution of agency attack." Pesi sira verdigi ornek su ben bir SJW olarak algilandigim icin yaptigim is prestij kaybederken, koyu hristiyan is arkadaslarim bunu yasamiyor. Guya apolitik muhendisler gayet de siyasi gorus ayrimi yapiyorlar.
      • Diger onemli buldugum argumani, arkaplana dalmadan anlatabilmek icin biraz egip bukmem gerekiyor ama bence ozeti soyle: Bir makbul muhendis tanimi (ESR'in J. Random Hacker yazisini ornek veriyor) yapip, bunun uzerinden bir aman ali riza bey tadimiz kacmasincilik yapiliyor. Mesela kendini bu tarz makbul muhendis olarak goren biri apolitikligine halel gelmesin diye ayrimciliga karsi durmaya cekinecektir zira ayrimciligin hedefi olan bireyler buyuk ihtimalle bu makbul muhendis tanimina uymayacaklar.
      • Bence ikinci ve ucuncu parcadaki tema bu insanlarin baskalarini ocak disi ilan etmeye calisarak, yazilim kalitesinden cok kendi ideolojilerini/rahatlarini onplana alarak karsi durduklarini iddia ettikleri katedral modeline benzemeye basladiklari yonunde.
      • "Some of us believed that "show me the code" was sincere and that if we just leaned in, paid our dues, and contributed, we would be recognized and accepted as members of a community of practice. For many of us, then, our ideological convictions arose out of self-preservation, when we realized that meritocracy was a lie and that in fact, the tech in-group was more interested in maintaining its power than in doing the highest-quality possible work. When you harass people who are trying to do their jobs, or support that harassment, or fail to speak out against it, you're not interested in building the best thing you can, because to build the best thing you can you have to include everybody who wants to and can work together on it and contribute. Pushing away people who have something to contribute is an exercise in purity-based morality, not a sound business or technical strategy."
      • "What are you really achieving when you spend your limited time on a witch hunt rather than on reviewing pull requests? I guarantee you that hunting witches won't make your code pass more tests, patch its security vulnerabilities, or help anybody switch from proprietary to open-source software. If all bugs are shallow with enough eyes, encouraging people to turn their eyes away from your code will permit bugs to thrive. If the bazaar model works better than the cathedral model for development, then joining forces with people who share your goals is more effective building a walled garden into which only the ideologically pure can enter. And if the usefulness of code can be measured with no knowledge of its author, then you should be striving to remove barriers of entry into your project that filter out code solely on the basis of who wrote it."

  • Eich/Mozilla vakasi

      • Su alintiya da ayrica bayildim "I’ve especially loved all the mentions of McCarthyism (the Republican who tried to use government force to interfere with the lives of strangers), witch hunts (where we burned innocent women alive for being outside the norm), or lynch mobs (where conservatives tried to preserve the status quo with public beatings, because that’s literally what “conservative” means"
      • Kisilerin olaylara verdigi tepkiler oneminden dusunurken yazida soyle bir bolum vardi: Buyuk ihtimalle istifaya yol acan sebeplerden birinin Eich'in olay sonrasinda verdigi roportajda tepkilere karsi olan umursamazligi oldugunu ifade ediyordu. Belki biraz daha empati yapsaydi, bir LGBT kurumuna bagista bulunsaydi vs. istifa etmesine gerek kalmayabilirdi gibisinden.

Context is really important here. What is the purpose or mission of the community? Who is its audience? What are its guiding principles?"

    • "But don’t get hung up on the terminology. Don’t concentrate on the words that offend you and ignore what they’re pointing to — the words “rape culture” aren’t the problem. The reality they describe is the problem."
      • "Because when it comes to assessing a man, whatever one man is capable of, a woman must presume you are capable of. Unfortunately, that means all men must be judged by our worst example. If you think that sort of stereotyping is bullshit, how do you treat a snake you come across in the wild? You treat it like a snake, right? Well, that’s not stereotyping, that’s acknowledging an animal for what it’s capable of doing and the harm it can inflict. Simple rules of the jungle, man. Since you are a man, women must treat you as such. The completely reasonable and understandable fear of men is your responsibility. You didn’t create it. But you also didn’t build the freeways either. Some of the things you inherit from society are cool and some of them are rape culture."

    • Erkeklerin internetteki problemleri hafife almasini elestirirken kullandigi soyle bir ifade var ilgimi cekti: "an Internet so simple even your Dad can understand"
      • "In the end, an Internet built by Dads, for Dads, sells most of us short. The stereotypical Dad, insulated from divergent perspectives, lacks the necessary understanding of how social problems and power inequities persist—and how these problems get amplified in a networked society. When we don simple-explainer goggles to survey a stubbornly unequal digital culture, every problem becomes black and white. Combating harassment becomes equivalent to state censorship of free speech, and web anonymity becomes “naturally” a straightforward issue: everyone should use their real names and have one identity online, because you shouldn’t have anything to hide. After all, these Dads don’t need to worry about being outed since they aren’t sex workers or undocumented or disabled or vulnerable; nor are they activists or dissidents who need to worry about the NSA."
      • "The men who tell women not to feed the trolls are thinking of an Internet so simple Dad can understand it. Though keenly attuned to one form of injustice—the potential suppression of free speech—they cannot see other power dynamics at play, including the harms that result from virtual harassment (potential victims declining to participate in public forums, passing up speaking engagements and other opportunities for fear violent ultimatums may not be empty threats, and so on). As they see it, women and others just need to “man up” and ignore the haters."
        • Bu arguman benim surekli aklimda olan ifade ozgurlugunden bahsederken kimin ifade ozgurlugu noktasini vurgulamis
    • "The master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house," sozunden yola cikarak kadinlarin ciddiye alinmamasindan bahsederken soyle bir argumanda bulunmus "the master’s tools are kept off limits to women, who, in myriad ways, are discouraged and penalized for picking them up. The master has many tricks up his sleeve to prevent the dismantling of his domain, including planting seeds of self-doubt (If you don’t know how to whittle and forge a hammer, how can you talk about the effect of nailing things?), contending that women are actually holding the wrong tool (That’s not a hammer, it’s a hair curler!), or declaring women’s work inferior even when presented with a row of perfectly hammered nails (Let me show you how hammering is done, little lady!)."

    • Matthew Garett'in topluluk yonetiminin neden sadece teknik yeterliliginin esas olmadigini anlattigi bir yazisi
    • "Direct harassment and overt sexism are certainly a significant part of why the gender ratios in the Linux community[1] are so skewed, but they're not the whole story. Part of feeling comfortable with a community is the knowledge that those in positions of power can be relied upon to engage in appropriate action when undesirable situations arise - no matter how compelling your code of conduct, no matter how detailed your diversity policy, if someone contravenes them and nothing happens, those documents are worthless and your community is unwelcoming. You can't rely on enforcement unless the community can trust its leadership."
    • "It's impossible to separate these things. No matter how technically competent a community leader is, no matter how much code review they perform or how much mentorship they provide, if they're expressing unacceptable social opinions then they're diminishing the community. People I know and respect have left technical communities simply because people in positions of responsibility have engaged in this kind of behaviour without it causing them any problems. We shouldn't be willing to give people a pass simply because they aren't actually groping anyone or because they're not members of the KKK. Those who drive people away from the community on the basis of race, gender or sexual orientation deserve vocal condemnation, and if they're unwilling to change their behaviour then the community should instead act to drive them away."

Ozellikle rockstar/ninja elestirisi topuna gireceksek.
    • "Programmers like to think they work in a field that is logical and analytical, but the truth is that there is no way to even talk about programming ability in a systematic way. When humans don't have any data, they make up stories, but those stories are simplistic and stereotyped. So, we say that people "suck at programming" or that they "rock at programming", without leaving any room for those in between. Everyone is either an amazing programmer or "a worthless use of a seat". But that would mean that programming skill is somehow distributed on a U-shaped curve. Most people are at one end or the other, which doesn't make much sense. Presumably, people learn throughout their careers, so how would they go from absolutely terrible to wonderful without traversing the middle ground? Since there are only two narratives possible, that is why most people would place him in the "amazing programmer" bucket. He is associated with Django, which makes the crappy programmer label unlikely, so people naturally choose the other."
    • "He then gave an example of what this narrative can do to people. At the University of Kansas's geographic information system (GIS) day a few years ago, he sat in on a "fantastic presentation" about predicting seasonal floods on the Kansas River. The student had used tools that should be familiar to many of those at PyCon: Amazon Web Services, Linux, PostgreSQL, Python, Django, GeoDjango, and so on. Kaplan-Moss was hiring at the time, and she (the student) had just written thousands of lines of Python, so he asked if she wanted to interview for his company. Her response was that she couldn't do that, because she "was not really a programmer". That came from a woman who had just invented her own distributed GIS data processing pipeline, he said—but she's not really a programmer. That's because "programming is something you are in this myth, not something you do". "
    • "The talent myth sets an "impossibly high bar for entry", he said, and the fact that any of us are here at all "is kind of shocking given this myth". It needs to be dismantled and a community that recognizes that "average is actually pretty awesome" should be be built in its place. He is a mediocre programmer and he invited others to join him; "together we can do our jobs perfectly adequately". Attendees gave Kaplan-Moss a standing ovation for the keynote. "

    • Meritokrasi parodi olarak mi ortaya cikmis, bilmiyordum. "The term “meritocracy” itself was coined by British sociologist Michael Young in his satirical essay “The Rise of the Meritocracy.” In this essay, an unnamed narrator in the distant future describes the contemporary society of the United Kingdom. He observes that the greatest contributor to society is not the majority but rather a creative minority, members of a so-called “restless elite”. And while he admits that there are casualties of progress that arise from adherence to intelligence as a predominant ideal, he insists that the sacrifice is worthwhile. While recognizing that placing such a high value on purely intellectual effort may give rise to arrogance, he argues that the benefits to society make such an arrogance an acceptable side-effect of a process that creates a beneficial end."
