Faaliyetlerimize 2002 yılında çok şubeli şirketlerin merkez ve şubeleri arasındaki telefon görüşmelerinin ücretsiz yapmasını sağlayan altyapı projeleri gerçekleştirerek başladık. Süreç içerisinde Türkiye genelinde Alternatif Telekom Hizmeti vermek isteyen işletmelere İnternet Telefonu Servis Sağlayıcı altyapıları kurarak devam ettik.
2006 yılında Türksat A.Ş.’nin çağrı merkezini kurup, 5 yıl süreyle işlettik.

My presentation will focus on the social and educational inequalities that resulted from school closures in Turkey in the context of the larger problems from which children suffer in Turkey and internationally.
Providing access to free and high-quality public education is one of the most important factors for a polity to achieve social and political equality. When the Covid-19 pandemic first started, the natural response was to take strong lockdown measures. Schools tend to serve as community spread hubs for many communicable diseases and although it was immediately clear that children were barely affected by this disease, the suspicion that they were vectors of spread was the driving reason for school closures around the world. However, by summer 2020, research started revealing two important findings. First, primary schools were not vectors of transmission. They merely reflected the incidence rates in the community and most of the transmission was in the opposite direction. Parents infected children rather than children infecting adults or children infecting other children. The overwhelming majority of the literature on the topic has continued to confirm this finding until now, even in the presence of new variants. The second finding came less from academic research and more from national and international public agencies that worked on child welfare. Children were falling behind on school, they were being forced to work and mary, child abuse became both more rampant and more difficult to detect. Moreover, there was almost no research on virtual education for children at primary school age. Children whose families were less educated and who did not have access to a stable internet connection fell behind on school. My presentation will focus on the social and educational inequalities that resulted from school closures in Turkey in the context of the larger problems from which children suffer in Turkey and internationally. I argue that remote education has been a social and educational failure. I present quantitative and qualitative data to support my arguments.

Teaching art using FLOSS can present some challenges. In addition to a field dominated by commercial software as well as lack of options when it comes to existing material, there is also the deeper issue of how to familiarize the students not only with the open sourced software itself as a user but also with the FLOSS culture. What a curriculum in the fields of fine arts that not only teaching the software but also teaches FLOSS mindset can look like?
One of the key components to adoption and mainstreaming of FLOSS is its integration into education, especially in non-techical fields. This can present some challenges such as keeping students' skills relevant in a field dominated by commercial software as well as lack of options when it comes to existing material. However there is also the deeper issue of how to familiarize the students not only with the open sourced software itself as a user but also with the FLOSS culture, integrating them into the community. This talk will cover, via an example of a university course in photography, wHat approaches can help toward any or all of these issues, and what a curriculum in the fields of fine arts that not only teaches FLOSS but also teaches FLOSS mindset can look like.

The COVID-19 pandemic persists. One of the interventions adopted to control the pandemic is vaccination. However, IP rights on vaccines are creating a barrier to equal distribution of vaccines across the world. This talk aims to make the case that why IP rights on vaccines should be waived.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic caused over three million deaths and is still going on. One of the interventions adopted to prevent deaths is vaccination. While richer countries have been running mass vaccination campaigns, poor countries have not vaccinated their high-risk groups yet. One of the barriers to equal distribution of vaccines across the world is intellectual property (IP) rights that create monopolies over vaccine production. This talk aims to make the case that why IP rights on vaccines should be waived.

This talk will introduce the FSF's Defective by Design campaign against DRM ("Digital Restrictions Management"), identify new developments in DRM threatening computer user freedom, and what we can do to stop it.
In the free software community, we're used to advocating for free software and against proprietary software as a consequence of the principle that users should have control over their own devices, and that their dignity as computer users should be respected. On community spaces like message boards and forums, we often read arguments why people should use LibreOffice over Microsoft Word, GNU Octave over Matlab, and so on. Yet in these same community spaces, it's too often seen as a "win" when a particular form of proprietary software comes to GNU/Linux: DRM. Whether it's in the form of high resolution videos from the streaming service du jour, or "support" for a proprietary game or application, DRM is too often treated as a secondary issue of little consequence rather than the threat to user autonomy that it is. If we want to realize the chief goal of free software -- giving users digital autonomy -- we need to be vigilant in resisting DRM, and objecting to its use wherever it arises.
This talk will give a conceptual overview of Digital Restrictions Management (DRM), provide some background on the Free Software Foundation's Defective by Design campaign, and warn against its recent encroachments on user freedom. Special attention will be paid to the danger of Encrypted Media Extension (EME) component in both major web browsers, the use of DRM in educational materials, and new developments in treacherous computing.

MicroBlocks opens the world of physical computing (using microcontrollers to digitally sense, actuate, and instrument our world) to anyone who can use a computer. Join this session for a live demonstration to see why.
Just as Scratch has opened up coding to diverse youth all over the world, by hiding the tricky syntax of programming languages and by being "live" to allow code changes to be tested and executed immediately, MicroBlocks is poised to bring similar benefits to the world of physical computing. Physical computing means being able to pull data from sensors, synthesize it, morph it, even train AI/ML algorithms from it, and then make decisions on it that trigger other "actuations", such as robotic movements, lights, and sounds. Whether you’re a creative maker or gamer, or a serious engineer solving global problems with IoT, MicroBlocks is the ultimate choice for getting your physical computing projects done quickly and with glee.

LIBRE GRAPHICS CLUB (LGC) is a collaboratively created website and an online repository of teaching-learning materials about Free Software for graphics and visual communication.
The idea was conceived in 2013 after one of the LGC members joined Libre Graphics Meeting in Madrid and had met already mature community of software developers, artist and designers using the software and creating their own. As evidenced in this sound-bite: “The very close interaction among developers with artists and designers is priceless. The opportunity to exchange ideas with other project leaders and programmers focused on graphics is something that you can’t find in other event around the world.” Gustav Gonzalez, Tupi Project; the event left a strong impression and led to long list of baby steps leading to this platform.
Funded by the Arts Council England, this iteration is focused on development and delivery of pilot programme of online sessions form April to August 2021, focusing on artists, community organisers and activists who may be interested in expanding their digital tool-set for graphics and visual communication.
As this resource grows, diversity of pedagogical methods and structured approach alternatives will grow too, thus insuring relevant information is communicated in logical progression. In keeping with the ethos of area of study, all content is released under Free Art License 1.3 and collaboratively produced. Feel free to use, manipulate, distribute accordingly.

Inspired by the ongoing Bogaziçi resistance, IstanbuLab Science, Culture and University study group has introduced a collective bibliography, University in Turkey. The main motivation of this work is to contribute to the public discussion around academic freedom. By focusing on the story, method, and content of the bibliography, the discussion will touch upon the current conditions of academic freedom and autonomy in Turkey.
The universities in Turkey have long been exposed to different types of political repression. As of the 1980s, the institutional structures of universities have been shaped by authoritarian policies implemented by the state actors. The last example of these policies was the State of Emergency Decree-Law No. 676, which abolished the rector elections. Yet, despite the direct interventions of the state, the universities remain as public places where emergent collectives and social movements can flourish. The Bogazici resistance is one of the political objections that emerged from the universities against the policies that curb academic freedoms and undermine democratic rights. In January 2021, the President of Turkey appointed a new rector to the Bogaziçi University from outside its community. Since then, students, professors, activists, and former university members continue to organize protests against the appointment, publicly expressing that their universities should democratically elect their own rectors.
Inspired by the ongoing Bogaziçi resistance, IstanbuLab Science, Culture and University study group has introduced a collective bibliography, "University in Turkey." The primary motivation of this collaborative work is to contribute to the public discussion around academic freedom and autonomy and invite people to bring together literary works that focus on the journey of universities in Turkey. By focusing on the story, method, and content of the bibliography, the discussion will touch upon the current conditions of academic freedom and autonomy in Turkey.

In my session, which will last for 25 minutes, I will share how open data is used and discussed in the Covid-19 process. It is important to open the data, but it is more important to benefit from it. We can access a lot of data sources; including health data, but are they able to respond adequately to us in combating the epidemic?
What is the importance of open data in the fight against Covid19? What are open data sources? Which governments around the world focus on open access, open data, open state data? Why the quality of the data produced in the field of health has gained importance especially recently. How about the condition of Turkey in this context? My session will take 25 minutes and ı am going to share how open data is used and discussed in the covid19 process. It is important to open the data, but it is more important to benefit from it. We can access a lot of data sources; including health data, but are they able to respond adequately to us in combating the epidemic? As Opendatawatch notes, the current COVID-19 pandemic raises important questions about opening, sharing, and using data. The session will explain whether these questions have any answers.

Between 2014 to 2017, at Framasoft (French not-for-profit) we lead the "[Degoogleify The Internet](https://degooglisons-internet.org/en/)" campaign. Our goals were:
* to raise awareness about data centralization by tech giants;
* to host alternative services and show that FLOSS can be an ethical answer;
* to improve decentralization by sharing our experience
We learned a lot in the process (and are still learning since): let's talk about it!
Framasoft is a small French not-for-profit for popular education on digital issues, funded by grassroots donations.
After the Edward Snowden revelations, we spend a year degoogleizing our organization, by self hosting FLOSS for our digital needs (and documenting it all along).
A year later, in October 2014, we announced our 3-year plan "Degoogleify The Internet": we identified 30 services monopolized by tech giants, and planned to install and host 30 alternatives, all powered by FLOSS.
In those 3 years, we undertook a lot of work. We participated in more than 100 talks and workshop a year to express our concerns about surveillance capitalism. We tried to shape ideas, to better share them with tech & mainstream medias. We hosted more than 38 services (*and yet* we did not achieved to host the 30 we planned at first ;) ). We shared our hosting experience, and contributed to self hosting tools (Yunohost, Nextcloud) as well as mutualized hosting solutions (the [CHATONS](https://chatons.org) collective).
The Degoogleify The Internet campaign changed us. We did a lot of mistakes, and (hopefully) learned a lot from them. We also grew (but not too much), understood a lot about our values and motivations.
I (hi, I'm Pouhiou, co-director of Framasoft, and employed by the *association* since 2015) lived through all of it, and I can't wait to answer any question you would have about our experience, our successes and -more importantly- our failures!
So I'll try to sum up very briefly (10-15mn) who we are and what we did, so I can spent a lot of time answering your questions and talking about what you may find interesting in our experience.

Team CommUNITY has played a critical role historically within the Internet Freedom (IF) space, both for growing and improving the community health and diversity of digital rights defender networks around the world, and ensuring that conversations and strategies are centered on the leadership and vision of emerging groups facing the most acute forms of surveillance and censorship. We have done this through an intersectional, feminist leans, paying attention to the needs of the most vulnerable. Our 2,000+ community is representative of different regions and backgrounds, and includes FLOSS technologists, grassroots activists, researchers, journalists and human rights defenders from over 130+ countries. In this presentation, we will present our story and journey in creating safe, resilient, inclusive and sustainable networks of digital rights defenders across the globe. We will talk particularly about how we have been addressing, through the culture of solidarity and mutual aid, the challenges our community faced amid uncertain times from Covid-19 to ongoing human rights threats. This includes putting a stronger focus on psychosocial and accessibility needs. We hope that this story will inspire others and share best tips and practices that have worked for us.

Chris and Morgan Lemmer-Webber, co-hosts of the podcast FOSS and Crafts, discuss how limiting access to the foundational elements of any skillset limits our ability to create and our freedom of expression.
Any skillset has basic foundational elements or building blocks. In this talk we discuss the way that access to those basic elements is limited in modern society. This can be seen in any number of fields from actual building blocks increasingly being sold in sets to make specific toys as opposed to generic buckets of blocks that allow kids to develop their creativity to the way that access to the source code and hardware in our technology is increasingly restricted.

This talk will cover the utilization of open geospatial data collection and management tools in emergency situations, emphasising the significance of the coordination between national and international actors and open mapping communities. The case to be presented will be the community-driven data efforts following the Aegean Sea Earthquake in October 2020.
On October 30, 2020, Friday 13:51 UTC, a 6.9-magnitude (Mw) earthquake occured 16.5 km deep at the Aegean Sea, off the shore from Samos Island, and 23 km away from Seferihisar, Izmir. Structural damage and casualties were experienced due to the 16-second-long tremors both at the Aegean Region of Turkey and the Northern and Southern Aegean Regions of Greece.
Yer Çizenler team, within the hours following the event, have coordinated an emergency meeting and had got in touch with the Chamber of Survey and Cadastre Engineers (CSCE) in İzmir, offering help with their experience on open data collection and management tools in the response and recovery activities of the City Coordination Council (CCC) formed by the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (UCTEA) in İzmir. With the support of the global OpenStreetMap community through Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), ITU Center for Satellite Communications and Remote Sensing, and Maxar Technologies, majority of the existing building stock has been mapped in the Izmir city center and Seferihisar, and more than 1000 crowdsourced damage reports have been inspected in the field by the Chamber of Civil Engineers (CCE) İzmir branch.
The crowdsourced datasets emerging from these efforts have been shared with the community under open licenses, with hope for them to be valuable resources for the future studies of academia and other professional organizations on analysis, recovery and preparedness for potential future events.
The activities and their outcomes have emphasized the importance and effectiveness of free and community-based data efforts in emergencies, and the effectiveness of the free and open source tools utilized in those processes. All tools and methods were utilized quickly and easily in a time where decision-making processes must be swiftly turned into action, and met the requirements of the coordination teams throughout.
The resulting efforts highlight an efficient data collection and reporting process which can be
repeated for similar potential future disaster or emergency situations.

Kathy fills her desk with hardware, especially microcontroller boards that can be programmed using MicroBlocks, a learning tool for physical computing. While at Mozilla, she worked on the WebThings Project, which complements MicroBlocks to enable learners to build their own "Internet of Things" (IoT) devices and manage them over the web. Prior to Mozilla, she held senior roles at Arduino, Qualcomm Atheros, a few startups, and more. She is super keen on equity of access to all students across the globe to obtain a good STEM education. She received her bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and her master's in EE from Stanford University. When not at a computer, she can usually be found exploring the great outdoors of northern California.

Thus, I work on projects to close the gender gap in digital areas. I localized Women in Red project in Turkish Vikipedi and I facilitate some edit-a-thons in this scope.
