A year came and passed. We thought months are enough but here we are again under a global pandemic conditions trying to carry free software to new places. This last year is filled with fear and isolation but like always where human ingenuity lays, there was hope. A new era of communication and connection made several local communities of freedom struggle united with online events. That is what made ÖzgürKon possible and this year we keep our mission and try to bridge local communities to be part of international freedom struggle.
ÖzgürKon is an international conference held by Free Software Association of Turkey (Özgür yazılım Derneği) in every spring. Conference's languages are English and Turkish. Sessions are translated local languages when possible. Call for proposal is open to anyone who has an idea to share on freedom.
This year's main theme is decided as as **"inseparability of freedom".** Software and hardware freedom problem is entrenched into fabric of society. How we organize our lives, our communities and our society is getting shaped by technology faster everyday. Every unjust, nonfree technology we depend on makes our life just the same. At this pandemic's breaking point it has utmost importance to point out the fact that freedom is something we all think in total.
In this consept any talk connecting wide any array of freedom struggle is welcome.
Talks that covering main topics of the event which may be interested for a larger part of community. It takes one session including question-answer part. They will be broadcasted live.
Talks that covering specific subtopics which are for people with special interest in them. It takes half session including question-answer part. They will be broadcasted live.
It is enlightening talks that do not exceed 6:30 minutes about any subject that the participants wish to record and broadcast in the conference by their own means. The lightning talks will be broadcasted from the tape. There will be no question-answer sections. In a session, 8 lightning talks will be broadcasted.
These are the sessions that will be broadcasted during the event, selected from a system where the participants can present their opinions and vote on the subject. There are no subject restrictions. If ze gets enough votes, the speaker can play a ukulele and sing a session. A maximum of 8 freestyle speeches will be broadcasted. The difference between lightning talks and free style is that the sessions will go through the approval of the community, not the approval of the event committee.
